my housemate is blaring groovy 60s music through our gorgeous London warehouse conversion at 10pm on a Sunday and this is happiness
Appropriation is such an easy thing to defend. It’s so easy to be white and argue about race. There’s nothing for you to be angry about, there’s nothing precious for you to protect. You look at my hanbok and see something cute and stylish that you wanna “show appreciation for” by wearing without permission, but I see a dozen years of my life being abused and denied that clothing by your people who were supposed to take care of me as a kid, I see the entire history and beauty of my country wrapped up in its fabric and beaming through the colors. I see weddings and ritual and religion and holidays.
Meanwhile white people can just sit back and take whatever they want and feel nothing, no passion, no resentment, no sadness, and think in their minds that they’re so much better, and have equally nasty allies come to their rescue should someone have the nerve to tell them that they’re wrong. Theft is not an opinion. Look into your own history and embrace your own nice things.
so where all my white followers reblogging this at? you’re pretty cool people but I can almost guarantee one of you has a follower reblogging that shitty post praising Lady Gaga
you wanna interpret The Great Gatsby as a love story? cool! dont let any literature snobs put you down for it and insist their interpretation is more valid than yours. you wanna interpret Romeo and Juliet as a love story? awesome! read it and enjoy the gorgeous language used and enduring love story it tells:) you wanna interpret Lolita as a love story? well actually thats kinda
